Potential Manchester United signing Wout Weghorst won't be given the No7 shirt at the club because it's been promised to someone else.

The coveted No7 shirt, previously adorned by the likes of David Beckham, and Eric Cantona at United, became available after its old occupier Cristiano Ronaldo left the club in a cloud of controversy to join Al Nassr. But Burnley striker Weghorst, on loan with Besiktas, won't be given the special shirt number if he joins the Red Devils, as reports claim he will on loan until the end of the season, because Erik ten Hag's side are reserving it for Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix who's also been heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford.

United are reportedly in advanced talks with Atletico winger Felix, and to cajole him into joining, Red Devils CEO Richard Arnold has supposedly told the Portuguese ace that the No7 shirt is waiting for him, according to Sport Bible.

However, United will have to complete the deal soon as Atletico have reportedly given them until next week to finalise the loan switch. The Red Devils will also have to meet Atletico's demands, which include paying an upfront fee of £9.5m and an obligation to buy for £70.5, plus pay Felix's wages, to secure his signature, according to The Mirror.

Meanwhile, Weghorst's switch to Old Trafford is less complicated as he will only cost United 10m to sign permanently once the season ends. And the striker seemed to confirm his switch to Manchester in an emotion-filled goodbye to Besiktas fans on Saturday.

After netting the Turkish side's winning goal against Kasimpasa, the 30-year-old raised both hands to the crowd before passionately clutching the team's badge on his shirt. And when the match finished, he soaked in the atmosphere by crouching in the centre pitch, before trudging off and hugging several members of the team's coaching staff.
